Region: South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. A cool climate region, planted on the rolling green hills some 50 metres above sea level, strongly maritime influenced by Westernport Bay and the Bass Coast in the most southerly region of Victoria.

Vineyard: Moyarra Vineyard. Soil type: Yellow and dark loam over volcanic clays.

Notes: The 2017 Fumé Blanc is French oak barrel fermented. It is smoky and full of cupboard spices on the nose from its barrel fermentation, with cool climate, greener notes of asparagus, artichoke, capsicum and hedgerow. The palate is vibrant with lemon and mandarin blossom, lemon and lime acidity and Japanese sancho pepper on the youthful finish.

Food matches: Bento box, asparagus and goat’s cheese, ripe tomatoes, grain bowls. Label: Banksia, Loch Village.

Awards: Gippsland Wine Show 2017 (Class 2) Silver Medal.
